Our Story

It started in an attic…

Michelle found yoga in her teenage years, she loved the way it made her feel and its deep spiritual connections to India. Yoga followed her through out her life and her career as a secondary school teacher. Michelle decided to train to teach to enable her to create a home practice but before she knew it, others wanted to train with her.

In 2010 Bliss Yoga was born in Michelle’s attic at her home in Walsall. Her classic Hatha style with Yoga Nidra soon became so popular that she had to take her classes out to local venues.

Bliss continued to develop at an explosive pace and in 2013 Michelle opened a dedicated yoga studio in Aldridge and a year later expanded again by opening a pop up in Sutton Coldfield. In 2015 the Yoga Teacher Training Academy opened its doors and is now a Centre of Excellence for Teacher Training nationally.

In 2017 Bliss became Sandstone Yoga as we launched of our new brand ‘Sandstone Yoga & Pilates’ and our unique franchise opportunities. We currently have 3 studios Aldridge; Sutton Coldfield & Bearwood.

Lis' Story

Lis has been a dedicated Yogi for over twenty years, practicing since university.  Once she found Sandstone in Aldridge knew she had found a studio that would provide a challenging yoga practice for the body and a release and retreat for the mind.  Fifteen years in education in Birmingham working with secondary school children and training and coaching teachers, focused Lis’ on the effects that the stress of everyday living, lack of physical movement and disconnect between body and mind has on people, and how important it is on how to reconnect to ourselves and manage our own minds as well as enjoy our movement without competition or judgment.

After graduating as one of  the first cohort of Sandstone Teaching and taking time to deepen her study of yoga on her travels, Lis came back to Birmingham to pursue her goal of creating a studio and a team that could provide the haven and refuge she found in her yoga to a new community, and help everyone enjoy their movement and improve their quality of life.
